About Us
Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. In 2016, IRC Germany was founded and is involved in the areas of education, livelihoods, and safety and empowerment throughout Germany.
IRC is launching its Signpost program in response to the Ukrainian refugee crisis in partnership with Google and existing volunteer-led initiatives. We plan to build a large ambitious program that spans Europe and empowers people displaced by the crisis in Ukraine with the most important information they need to navigate their next steps, and eventually rebuild their lives, with access to individual, person-to-person support along the way. The Editorial Manager creates and oversees editorial procedures and standards across digital platforms that are sharing information with displaced and crisis-effected Ukrainians. S/he is responsible for creating and leading the implementation of a user-focused content strategy. S/he manages an editorial team and works closely with the digital community liaison team to ensure they are equipped with the information they need to answer questions and that their feedback continuously informs the improvement of information products and the development of new information.
Major Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to editorial standards and that content is optimized to perform well on social media and continuously coach partner staff in these practices.
- Establish clear, context-specific information sharing strategies, standards, and tools, and ensure partners are trained in and able to use them.
- Create, tweak and maintain social media SOPs to ensure social media activity is driven by audience understanding and social media best practice.
- Teach teams how to build, engage and retain an audience (on social media and other information platforms).
- Maintain close working relationships with Protection Advisors and other technical staff to ensure all editorial team protection concerns receive appropriate technical oversight and input.
- Support development of strategies to address mis- and disinformation circulating in the target communities
- Support approaches to content development that emphasize and enable accessibility.
- Build capacity of partner staff from a variety of backgrounds.
- Ensure teams are measuring content relevance and usefulness in collaboration with M&E focal points.
- Maintain working knowledge of key issues relevant for those effected by the crisis in Ukraine.
Your Profile
- 3 years of reporting, writing and editing experience, including for online platforms and social media.
- Prior experience working in managing and updating digital media, website and news publication, previous experience in multimedia content development.
- Ukrainian and English language skills at C1 level according to theCommon European Framework of Reference for Languages (CERF)
- Previous experience with CMS systems.
- Excellent visual design sense regarding clear and accurate presentation of content.
- Previous experience on the audio-visual, photo, and graphic designing tools (Adobe Creative Clouds, Canva or other relevant tools)
- Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to successfully work in a fast-paced environment within and across departments/functions/geographic locations and develop positive relationships with locally and remote based staff.
- Humanitarian experience is a plus.
